The NCS Guide to April

April

Ah April. Month of fools, Easter eggs and marathon-runners. It’s also the month of epic new seasons of our favourite shows and returning artists with awesome albums we feel like we’ve been waiting for FOR-EV-ERRR.

NETFLIX

There’s so much to get stuck into this month that this list could be A LOT longer. But these are our top watches on Monsieur Netflix.

  • RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season 10 (23 March)

Back after All Stars 3, the tenth season of your favourite wig-raising drag queen challenge reality TV show sees 14 new queens fight it out for the crown. Tune in for drama galore on and off the runway.

  • Bates Motel, Season 5 (11 April)

The modern-day prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic 1960 movie Psycho reaches a dark and dramatic climax in its fifth and final season. Expect everything gruesome - and then some.

  • Lost in Space, Season 1 (13 April)

Based on the 1960’s sci-fi series of the same name, this new, visually-stunning drama follows the Robinson family as their ship is knocked off course and they become (yes, you guessed it) lost. In. Space.

  • Aggretsuko, Season 1 (20 April)

WARNING! Not your usual anime! Aggretsuko comes from the creators of Hello Kitty, and is a cute red panda working in an office, feeling undervalued. How does she deal with it? Heavy metal karaoke, of course!

FILMS

Last month was crammed with mega blockbusters, and there’s some hotly-anticipated movies this month too.

  • Love, Simon (6 April)

It’s about time we had an LBGT+ teen high school coming-of-age drama! We follow high schooler Simon, who’s at risk of being outed by blogger Blue. That’s one big problem. The other? Simon is falling in love with Blue online.

  • Every Day (20 April)

What would it mean to love someone who wakes up as a different person every day? This is something 16-year-old Rhiannon and mysterious soul A face in this tear-jerking, life-affirming adaption of David Levithan’s best-selling YA novel.

  • Avengers: Infinity War (26 April)

The 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Infinity War is packed with everyone from Captain America, to Ant-Man, Black Panther and the Guardians of the Galaxy, as they band together to battle Thanos for the world-bending Infinity Stones.

MUSIC

There are massive releases from some of your favourite female artists this month, including the much-anticipated debut album from rapper Cardi B.

  • Cardi B - Invasion of Privacy (6 April)

  • Kylie Minogue - Golden (6 April)

  • Plan B - Heaven Before All Hell Breaks Loose (13 April)

  • Jason Derulo - 777 (13 April)

  • Kimbra - Primal Heart (20 April)

  • Janelle Monáe - Dirty Computer (27 April)

SPORTS

The Commonwealth Games kick off this month in Australia, featuring one of the youngest competitors EVER (11-year-old Welsh table tennis champ Anna Hursey!). But there’s also some of the biggest events in the horse racing and golf calendars.

  • Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast, Australia (4-15 April)

  • Golf - Masters, Augusta National, Georgia (5-8 April)

  • Horse racing - The Grand National, Aintree (14 April)

GAMES

While it’s still a bit early for most new releases, here’s a few of our faves coming out this month.

  • God of War (20 April)

Chronologically the 8th game in the franchise, God of War is actually more of a reimagining, as this PS4 title shifts from ancient Greek mythology to ancient Norse, with beautifully-rendered snowscapes and monsters.

EVENTS

Whether you’re a runner, a gamer or love eating and celebrating, there’s something that’ll tickle your fancy this April.

  • London Marathon (22 April)
  • Vaisakhi (28 April)
  • Feast of St. George (21 April)
  • London Games Festival (5-15 April)
