Your Guide to NCS

You’ve seen the NCS logo. You’ve heard the countless incredible stories of people having the time of their lives. You want to take part in the amazing journey (and we don’t blame you), but you’re still not quite sure how it all works?

NCS is a chance for all you 15-17 year olds to embark on an incredible journey where you’ll take part in exhilarating challenges, make your mark and build valuable skills for work and life.

Adventure

In the first week, you’ll live in an outdoor activity centre with a team of 12-15 people you’ve never met before. At first, these folks might be strangers, but rest assured they’ll end up being your friends for life! During the week of adventure, you’ll enjoy some adrenaline-fuelled activities including rock-climbing, canoeing, hiking and archery.

Discovery

In week 2, you’ll be reunited with your group where you’ll stay in uni-style accommodation. You’ll learn how to cook for yourself (guaranteed you’ll become a pro at making beans on toast!) and learn huge skills that make for a killer CV. *If you take part in the spring/autumn programme you’ll be living at home during this week but you’ll still take part in as many brilliant life-changing experiences – you’ll just wake up in your own bed!

Action

It’s time to make your mark! We believe that you have the power to change the world around you that’s why this week is dedicated to delivering your very own social action project. NCS offers the necessary tools to help achieve your goals and complete an incredible project. Get ready to plan, fundraise and make a difference!

Graduation

It’s time to celebrate in style. After the programme, all the NCS grads are rewarded with a memorable celebration after doing inspirational work in their community. Plus, even though you’re at the end of the programme, this is only just the beginning! You’ll get exclusive access to potential volunteering opportunities and apprenticeships as well as amazing discounts and big events! Once an NCSer, always an NCSer.

Fact or fiction?

NCS will help with your UCAS application – fact! UCAS recommends students include NCS in their personal statement.

NCS is too much like school – fiction! NCS offers the lessons they can’t teach you in class. From rock-climbing to planning your own social action project to meeting incredible people, NCS is all about rewarding young people after all the exam stress!

You will learn the skills employers’ value – fact! NCS is recognised by some of UK’s largest employers.

NCS is a boring programme – fiction! NCS allows you to challenge yourself and discover something new!

The programme is not for people like me – fiction! NCS is open to young people from the ages of 15-17, although you’ll need to be 16 when you take part. Make sure you don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
