How does a 13-year-old from Bournemouth become an award-winning, Demogorgon-fighting, rights-campaigning teen in just two short years? Well from what we’ve seen, she’s passionate, determined and more, which makes it no surprise that you voted her one of your Unstoppable stars of 2017! So if you’ve been wondering how she got from seaside town to spotlight sensation, you’re in luck as we’ve done all the hard work for you.
Obvious start, but Millie IS Eleven!
As in her breakout character from Netflix’s overnight hit, Stranger Things (but you knew that). Although Millie was actually 11 when auditioning for this game-changing role, and also when she came up with that intense ‘remember I’m psychic’ stare. And her commitment didn’t stop there, as Millie actually shaved her head to become this character – as she recently shared in a video to her 12.3 million Instagram followers. An empowering moment and a chance she took to show girls everywhere that it’s not what’s on the outside that counts. Go Millie!
Now she’s even an award-winning child actor
According to one fan, Eleven only has just under 250 words in the whole of Stranger Things season 1! So if you thought the great acting was left for those powerful speeches or iconic one-liners, just see how much Millie can do with a raised eyebrow. And this silent performance claimed her a trophy at the MTV Movie & TV Awards for best actor in a TV show.
Is she planning to stop there?
When you’re on this much of a roll why would you? Millie seems to be making the move to Hollywood, snapping up a key role in next year’s Godzilla: King of Monsters, as well as rumors flying around about her playing the sharp-witted younger sister of the famous Sherlock Holmes. If it goes ahead, the film will be produced by her own production company (yep you heard right), making her one of the youngest stars to land a producer credit on a feature film. Wow!
All this without a single acting lesson
As if it wasn’t enough that a 13-year-old is putting other actors to shame, Millie recently told Variety that she’s never actually trained professionally as an actor - never dropped by an acting school, or even taken a class. She simply decided she wanted to be on-screen at age 8, and the rest speaks for itself. Oh, and did we mention she’s deaf in one ear? Seemingly, nothing can stop this teen from doing what she sets her mind to.
In every sense of the word, Millie Bobby Brown is Unstoppable
Some child actors may peak too soon and disappear off into the night, but that’s not Millie. She’s already gone beyond acting to try and use her powers for good, including campaigning for Unicef and lending her voice to victims of online abuse @Milliestopshate. We can’t wait to see what Millie has in store for us in 2018!
