What we’re looking forward to in 2016

ncs 29/01/2016

Move over 2015…2016 is here! The holidays might be a distant memory (sucks, doesn’t it?) but luckily, 2016 is filled with loads of exciting events that will perk you right up! Whether you’re a film buff or one of those sports fans, this year is filled with dates for your diary. So make sure to mark your calendar with our top picks for the most buzzworthy highlights of 2016!

Film

Ghostbusters 3

Who you gonna call? Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy of course! Even though some remakes make us cringe, we’re actually really excited about Ghostbusters 3! The Bridesmaids alumni are almost guaranteed to provoke an outbreak of giggles in cinemas across the land, so make sure to tune in as they revive this timeless classic.

Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice

Okay, now this has to be the ultimate showdown! The two most recognised comic book heroes go head-to-head. Who will prevail? The caped crusader or the man in tights? Only time will tell…

The Divergent Series: Allegiant

Tris is back kicking a few bad guys in the…proverbials… in part one of the final instalment in the Divergent series. We can’t wait to find out what’s behind the wall. It’s only 2 months away so you can officially start the countdown…now!

Zoolander 2

We’ve been secretly practicing our “Blue Steel” look, but Derek Zoolander proves to be the master. Just one more month until our favourite mermaid…excuse us…merman returns to the big screen!

Suicide Squad 2

This DC comic brings all the antiheroes and mega supervillains together to take on some dangerous tasks for the government in exchange for shorter prison sentences. Somehow we feel there are lots of things that can go wrong... Oh and if you haven’t seen the brief video clip of Jared Leto as the Joker, we suggest you do it now!

Sports

Rio 2016 Olympics

The Games of the XXXI Olympiad, more commonly known as the…err…Olympics…will be a spectacular celebration of sporting glory amid the noise, colour and magic of Rio. After four years of training, this is the time when all the athletes’ hard work pays off – just imagine doing the NCS adventure phase for four whole years. Actually, that’d be amazing.

Sunny Rio de Janeiro is this year’s host city and to be honest, we can’t wait to watch sports all day, every day! With Michael Phelps back from retirement, how many golds will he swim away with this time around? Will Usain Bolt confirm his status as the fastest man in the world except Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin? And with British gymnasts enjoying a fantastic 2015, we can’t wait to see what they’ll bring to the table… or should we say balance beam! The Games begin 5 August and run until 21 August.

UEFA Euro 2016

Last year saw a football miracle occur, with not just one, not just two, but THREE home nations (and neighbouring Republic of Ireland) qualifying for UEFA Euro 2016. The 15th edition of this European festival of football takes place in France between 10 June and 10 July 2016. Scotland we’ll miss you, but it will be amazing. Pob lwc Cymru!
