Revision Dos and Don'ts (2017 Edition)!
Exam season is well underway, and let’s be honest – there are more fun things in life than annotating textbooks, cramming at midnight and highlighting every conjunctive adverb in Of Mice and Men. We get it – it’s a stressful time, and you’re probably finding it really hard to believe there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. But guess what? Summer is just around the corner. No, really. Soon you’ll be free of mock papers and To Kill A Mockingbird. Until then, we’ve put together a list of dos and don’ts to help guide you through this busy exam period.
Don’t lose your work!
Working on a computer? Do save all of your work and email updated versions to yourself. There’s nothing worse than losing all your files. Literally, nothing worse. Save it or lose it!
Do swap the screen for some paper.
Wait, you’re working on a computer?! Don’t rely too much on technology. Dropping that laptop on the kitchen floor could erase your entire life! Okay, a little dramatic... but seriously, there’s nothing wrong with paper (apart from, you know, all those felled trees). But still, write stuff down!
Do play some music!
Listen to music that helps you relax. With all due respect to all you hip hop or heavy metal fans, your favourite rapper’s sparkling wordplay – or that twelve-minute guitar solo with blistering snare drums – might be, you know, a tad distracting. Try some classical music for a change. You’ll never look Bach.
Do watch a movie… seriously.
Stay stimulated with non-work activities. Nothing like a good film to get you ready to ace that next test! That said, don’t watch a tearjerker. That traumatic scene at the end of Marley & Me? Beautiful, really beautiful. But terrible when you’ve got a science exam in six hours and you’re blubbing into a box of tissues.
Don’t burn out! Do chill out…
Keep a sense of perspective. Yes, exams are important, but not at the expense of your health and happiness. Take some Zen time away from all the stress. Unfurl that yoga mat. Learn to unicycle. You know, relax. Don’t learn to unicycle. That was just a joke…
Do manage your time.
Split your time wisely. Are you brilliant at Biology but awful at Algebra? A genius at Geography but middling at Media Studies? You may want to dedicate a little more time to the subjects where you’re not quite there yet. But if you’re actually amazing at everything, go you!
Don’t give up!
And perhaps most importantly, don’t give up! Exam revision can be a tough time, but remember you’re not the only one going through this. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and you’ve got one amazing summer ahead of you.
