Learning skills and having experiences outside the classroom are just as important as those inside it. That’s why we’d love to talk to your school or college about what NCS can offer your young people. We’ve already worked with 92% of mainstream schools and colleges, but we’re keen to make sure all 16-17 year olds have the chance to enjoy the NCS experience.
How we work with schools & colleges
Please get in touch directly to discuss how we can work best with your school or college. You can also take a look below for the main ways we can support you explore the potentials of NCS.
NCS and Ofsted
Ofsted’s School Inspection Update refers to NCS as a programme whose positive impact on pupils may be considered as part of an Ofsted inspection report. To make sure Inspectors get the relevant information, we’ve put together a checklist for schools and colleges to complete along with your local NCS team. You can keep this in your Ofsted file to show Inspectors as proof of NCS contributing to your students’ personal development.
One of the most engaging ways tell Year 11s and 12s all about what NCS can offer is through our guided assemblies, led by our trained local NCS teams. But we also provide NCS-led tutorials and information stands at careers and freshers’ fairs. We want parents and guardians to be kept in the loop too, so we can also be at parents’ evenings for special Q&A sessions, if appropriate.
Along those lines, you can also ask us to supply information booklets and material for parents and guardians, as well as content for you to put together your own communications. Our amazing NCS grads are happy to come into your institution to talk about their experiences on the programme. This is a great way to hear about what really happens from the people who know best!
Champion Schools and College Partners
Your school or college could also be awarded 'Champion' status in recognition of all the hard work you’ve put into promoting NCS and encouraging young people to sign up. Institutions can gain Gold, Silver or Bronze status. At a regional celebration event, you’ll be awarded a plaque, something you can show Ofsted to highlight how much you’ve supported your students’ extracurricular opportunities. You can see a list of the schools awarded Champion status for 2018 here.
We can provide guided sessions led by NCS staff in order to support classroom activities such as PSHE sessions, stress-busting workshops or exam preparation guidance.
"I would urge schools and colleges to work with NCS and together we can help prepare and develop young people for the future" - Brian Lightman, former general secretary, ASCL
